Meet Dr. Kissoondial
Oral Surgeon
I would like to welcome you to Oakland Oral Surgery where I have been practicing since 2004. I was born in the small Caribbean nation of Guyana in South America. At the age of four my family moved to Toronto, Ontario Canada where I learned to love hockey and tolerate the cold. I played multiple sports throughout high school and graduated with an Ontario scholarship and an academic letter for excellence in academics and athletics. I attended St. Michael’s college at the University of Toronto where I completed a double major in microbiology and immunology with a minor in economics. It was a dental injury early in my life that gave me an appreciation of the care and artistry required to be a dentist.
In 1992 I started on my road to a career in dentistry at the University Of Detroit Mercy School Of Dentistry. Upon graduation in 1996 I was accepted to the General Practice residency at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. After completing my first year of residency I was offered a position as Chief Resident in the GPR/Oral Medicine program. I had the opportunity to do research at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill where I co-authored an abstract published in the journal Hormones, which studied facial growth in children treated with human growth hormone.
My interest in surgery and post dental education was sparked and I took a position as an intern at the Sinai-Grace Oral and Maxillofacial surgery program where I was exposed to all aspects of the specialty including pathology, reconstruction and trauma. In 2003 I completed my Oral Surgery program at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan where I worked hand in hand with my medical colleagues receiving training in anesthesia, internal medicine, general surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, craniofacial surgery, occuloplastic surgery as well as the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. I conducted research on Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) and published an abstract that was presented at the American Academy of Dental Research annual meeting in 2003.
I’m honored to be partnered with a team of ethical and compassionate individuals who help me provide care to my patients. My professional interests include dental implants and the technological advances in modern dentistry and surgery. I enjoy taking numerous courses around the country. I became board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2005 and successfully became recertified in 2014. I have served as a past board examiner for the state of Michigan specialty exam and I am currently part of a team that certifies Oral Surgeons and their offices in anesthesia for the Michigan Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Currently, I am on staff at St. John Macomb Hospital.
I have been happily married to my wife Laurie since 2002. I enjoy spending time with my two children who share my fascination with gadgets, electronics and robotics. My lifelong dream is to see my beloved Maple Leafs raise the Stanley Cup.
